Living In Custody In JKM

Enrolment to live in custody will be decided after your case being presented to court. The primary responsibility to put you in custody is to ensure that your health, safety and well-being are maintained at all times.

Criteria For Enrollment

Enrolment to live in custody will be decided after your case being presented to court. The primary responsibility to put you in custody is to ensure that your health, safety and well-being are maintained at all times. Therefore, the decision for custody made by Judges will be based on ā€œthe best interests of the child”. The ā€œbest interests of the childā€ law requires courts to focus on the child’s needs and not the parent’s needs.

Judges look at many things to ensure their decision is at your best interest (Child Act 2001):

  1. Does either parent abuse you?
  2. Does either parent abuse drugs or alcohol?
  3. Does either parent expose you to domestic violence?
  4. Will you have a safe place to live?
  5. Will you be well-fed and clothed?
  6. Will you be supervised enough?
  7. Will you get enough emotional support?

What is the benefit to live in custody?

  1. You will receive adequate economic support
  2. Your safety assures
  3. You are removed from any conflict
  4. You have emotional stability

How to overcome negative influences?

  1. Be positive
  2. Be involved and work as a team
  3. Share your worries with your friend
  4. Report to your supervisor or officer for any problem or issues
  5. Report any bully (Bullying)

Coping With Changes In Life Living In Custody.

Things you can do to make coping with life changes a little easier:

  1. Celebrate the positives.
  2. Ask yourself how much you can control.
  3. Recognise the worst.
  4. Accept and reframe.
  5. Manage your stress. (Stress Management)
  6. Take action and seek support.
