CT Angiography Examination

CT Angiography refers to special examination of the blood vessels using the CT scanner.

What Is CT Angiography?

CT Angiography refers to special examination of the blood vessels using the CT scanner. A liquid, contrast medium is injected into the blood vessel.

Resaons For Performing CT Angiography

To visualize and study major blood vessels and blood vessels to the organs of the body.

Types Of CT Angiography

TYPES ORGAN
CT Angiography Cerebral Blood vessels to the brain
CT Angiography Carotid Name of the blood vessel : Carotid
CT Angiography Aorta Name of the blood vessel : Aorta
CT Angiography Cardiac Blood vessel to the heart
CT Angiography Lower Limb Blood vessel to the thigh, calf and legs
CT Angiography Upper Limb Blood vessel to the arms and hands

How And Where Can I Get This examination ?

This examination can only be requested by a specialist and performed at hospitals equipped with CT Angiography facilities.

Before examination

  • Inform your doctor or radiographer if you are pregnant or suspect that you may be pregnant.
  • You need to take steroids, if you have previous allergies or asthma.
  • You have to fast 4 – 6 hours before the examination.
  • You need to undress or remove all metalic accesories from your body (eg : belt; bra and others) and wear hospital attire.
  • A needle (branula) will be inserted.
  • Your weight will be taken.

During examination

  • You are adviced to lie down on examination couch in CT room.
  • The radiographer will explain and give specific instruction thet need to be followed.
  • Contrast medium will be injected.
  • Scanning start.
  • During scanning, you can communicate with the radiographer via intercom.
  • The image will be produced and displayed on a monitor.

After examination

  • You are adviced to rest after the examination.
  • Warm sensation and dizziness are normal a normal side effects from the use of contrast medium.
  • On completion of the examination, you are adviced to visit the requesting doctor on your appointment day.
  • You are allowed to eat and advised to drink lots of water to speed up the contrast media excretion out of the body through urination.

Examination Report

All images that produced are reviewed by the radiologist and report is prepared.
