Dr. Harlina Halizah Siraj is an Associate Professor from the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). A graduate from UKM, Dr Harlina received her clinical training in Hospital Kuala Lumpur before returning to her alma mater as a trainee lecturer. After completing her Masters in O&G, she was an Honorary Fellow at the Antenatal Diagnostic Centre, National University Hospital (NUH) Singapore and an International Federation of Obstertrics & Gynaecology (FIGO) Fellow at the Department of OB-GYN & Women’s Health, School of Medicine, University of Minnesota, USA. She attended the 2011 Healthcare Educators Program in Harvard Macy Institute, Harvard Medical Schoolin Boston USA. Dedicated to clinical teaching and learning, Dr Harlina was Head of the Personal & Professional Development (PPD) Unit in the Faculty of Medicine UKM for five years, before being appointed as Head ,Dept of Medical Education recently. She is also an O&G Consultant and Coordinator of the Family Planning Unit in the O&G Dept, UKM Medical Centre. Her area of interest includes family planning & contraception, adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH) as well as medical professionalism and clinical teaching.
She has been an invited speaker in many seminars, conferences, dialogues and forum – locally as well as internationally.
Her research focuses on personal and professional development in medical education, contraception as well as sexual & reproductive health issues.
She is also active in promoting and advocating the well-being and health of adolescent girls dan underprivileged women and has been involved in many civil societies for the past 15 years. She was the Chairperson of Raudhatus Sakinah Centre for Adolescent Girls from 1998 until June 2012. She was the National Head for Women Section of an Islamic NGO – Jamaah Islah Malaysia (JIM) (1999 – 2009) and the Past President of Malaysian Association of Maternal & Neonatal Health (MAMANEH). Currently she is the Chairperson of Social Development Committee for IKRAM Malaysia.
She was a three-time recipient of UKM Quality Award for Community Service ( 2004, 2007 & 2010) as well as a two-time recipient of UKM Excellent Lecturer Award (2009 & 2010). She was granted by the State Government of Selangor, the Saidatina Khadijah Award in 2011 as well as a nomination for the Great Women of Our Times Award by Malaysian Women’s Weekly in 2009.
She is happily married to Ustaz Zulkifli Ahmad for the past 21 years and is blessed by the presence of her three living adolescent children – Syifa’ Hana (19), Syamil (15) & Deena (10). She loves doing needlework and enjoy gardening with her husband at her spare time.
