What Is Violence

What is Violence?

Violence is defined in many ways. One such definition given by World Health Organization, is defined as The intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against a group or community, that either results in or has a high likelihood or resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment or deprivation.

How many types of violence are there?

Violence can be devided into three main types :

  • Self-directed
    • Suicidal behavior and self abuse
    • Self-abuse
  • Interpersonal
    • Family/partner
    • Community
  • Collective
    • Social
    • Political
    • Economic

What is the manifestation of violence?

Violence occurs in many forms :

  • Physical
  • Sexual
  • Psychological
  • Deprivation or neglect

How big is the problem in Malaysia?

Not many cases related to violence are reported to authorities. Many cases of domestic violence, rape, child abuse and neglect are left unreported. In 2002, there were 2020 admissions and 108 deaths due to self inflicted in government hospitals. Assault 5093, death 65.
