Getting Vaccinated Against Hepatitis A

What is Hepatitis A vaccine?

  • Provides 70-90% protection against typhoid infection.
  • It is given as an injection in two doses with 6 to 8 month apart.
  • It gives longtimes protection.

Who should get Hepatitis A vaccine?

Is recommended for persons 1 years of age and older

  • Travelers to areas with high rates of Hepatitis A infections (Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe).
  • Children living in areas with high rates of Hepatitis A
  • Sewage workers
  • Intravenous drug users
  • Food caterers or handlers especially restaurants, stalls, canteen owners and workers to reduce risks of infection
  • Persons with chronic liver disease
  • Persons with clotting factor disorder
  • Men who have sex with men

Where can I get vaccinated?

  • Any private health clinics or hospitals
  • Consult your doctor for more information
