New Straits Times Tuesday, 21/06/2011 Taiwan fruit, vegetable powder found tainted KUANTAN: The Health Ministry yesterday confirmed that the Natural Beauty Fruit and Vegetable Powder product from Taiwan had tested positive for Di(2-Ethylhexyl)Phthalate (DEHP). Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai yesterday said an order was sent out for the product to be taken off the shelves and advised customers who had purchased the product not to consume it. However, he said, another product called the Natural Beauty Drink Powder, and the Chuang's Square Cookies (brown sugar, all wheat, almond and sesame) produced by Chuang's King Tai Chang Food Co Ltd from Taiwan, was found to be free of DEHP. On Saturday, the ministry had conducted an analysis on the products — Chuang's Square Cookies, Natural Beauty Drink Powder and Natural Beauty Fruit and Vegetable Powder — after the products were suspected to be contaminated with DEPH. Liow said further updates on the food products from Taiwan could be obtained from http://moh.gov.my or http:/fsq.moh.gov.my, or call 03- 88833652 or 03-88833653 for clarification. Those convicted of importing, storing, producing, distributing or selling the tainted products can be fined up to RM100,000 or face a 10-year jail term or both under Section 13 (1) of the Food Act 1983. |
